PARUPPU URUNDAI KULAMBU

           Paruppu urundai kuzhambu is a traditional receipe of Tamilnadu.It is a good choice for weekends.My mother - in -law prepares this Kozhambu more nicely.This is a tasty and spicy dish.Herewith i was given step by step pictures to prepare it easier.

Ingredients

  • Gram dal/kadalai paruppu  – 1 cup
  • Drumstick leaves – few
  • Scrubbed coconut – 3 tbsp
  • small onion/shallots – 3 nos
  • cumin seed – 1 tsp
  • fennel seed – 1/2 tsp
  • Chili powder – 2 tsp
  • Tamarind – golf ball size
  • Turmeric powder – a pinch
  • Salt as per taste
To Temper
Oil – 1 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
curry leaves -  few

Preparation method

1.Soak gram dal for 1 hour.Soak tamarind in hot water.

2.Grind gram dall slightly hard.Add 1 tbsp of scrubbed coconut,drumstick leaves,fennel seeds,slightly salt into it.

3.Mix it well.Then made it into small balls as shown in the figure.

4. Extract the tamarind water and discard the pulp.To this add salt,chili powder and water.Mix it well.Let it allow to boil till raw smell goes out.

5.Then add all balls one by one.Let it allow to boil for 5 mins.

6. In the mean time,grind 1 tbsp of scrubbed coconut,small onions,cumin seed.

7.Add ground paste into the pan.Close the lid.Let it allow to boil till it thickens.

8.Heat oil in another pan.Add mustard seeds.When it splutters,add curry leaves.pour this into the above.

9.Now paruppu urundai kolambu is ready to serve.
