MOTHAGAM / SWEET KOZHUKATTAI(COCONUT POORANAM)

Mothagam is made for Ganesh Chaturthi.The sweet filling inside a modak is made up of fresh grated coconut and jaggery.Lets see how to make this sweet kozhukattai.
Ingredients Cooking Time : 45 Mins
Rice flour – 1 cup
Sesame oil – 1  teaspoon
Water – as needed
Salt – as needed
For Coconut pooranam
Coconut – 1 cup
Jaggery – 1 cup
Ghee – 1 teaspoon
Water – less than 1/2 cup
Cardamom powder – 1/2 teaspoon

Method
Step :1
Grate the coconut.Add jaggery with water, after jaggery gets dissolved switch off the flame and drain the jaggery water with tea strainer.

Step 2:

Now heat the jaggery water,when it comes to boil add the coconut, cardamom powder and ghee.Mix it well in a medium flame for 5 minutes till it becomes thick. Switch off the flame.Allow it cool and make small balls.

Step 3:

For Dough
Bring water to boil with a teaspoon of oil and salt.Add it to the flour and make a soft dough.Make equal size balls.

Step 4:

Apply oil in your palm.Make small cups ,fill it with coconut pooranam and close it and press to make the shape as shown in figure.

Step 5:
Repeat the same procedure for remaining balls.

Step 6:
Steam this Kozhukaatai in a steamer.cook this for 5 to 10 minutes

Mothagam / Sweet Kozhukattai is now ready to taste.
