MOONG DAL SAMBAR/IDLY SAMBAR

IMG_0321                                                                                   Moong dal sambar is one of the major side dish for idli or dosa.However We are eating so many other dishes,As a south indian we are getting full satisfaction with Idly and sambar.Here are the steps to prepare it easily like hotels.

Ingredients

  • Moong dal – 3/4 cup
  • Onion(Big) - 1
  • Green chilies – 3
  • Carrot – a half
  • Tomato – 1 (Big size)
  • Potato – 1 (Medium size)
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  • Sambar powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Gram flour/Kadalai mavu – 1 tsp
  • Hing – 1/2 tsp
  • Salt as per taste

To Temper

  • Oil – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Coriander leaves  few
  • Curry leaves few

Preparation Method

1.Chop all the vegetables finely as like shown in the figure.

2.Fry the moong dal slightly for 1 min.Transfer this into a pressure cooker and keep it aside.

3.Heat oil in a pan.Add onions first,Then green chilies,tomato one by one.Saute it well.Add turmeric powder and hing.

4.Then add all the vegetables one by one.Saute it for 3 min.Switch off the flame.

5.Transfer this to the pressure cooker where we already kept moong dal.Add 2 cups of water and salt..IMG_0301 IMG_0302
6.Pressure cook it for 1 whistle.Let it simmer for another 2 min.Take it out.

7.Heat oil in pan.Add mustard seeds,when it is spluttered,add curry leaves.
8.Pour the contents from cooker to the pan.Add sambar powder.Check the salt level is sufficient.Else add it more.

9.Add 1 more cup of water.Allow to boil for 5 min.
10.Dilute gram flour in a cup of water.Add this to the above.Let it simmer for 5 min.Garnish with coriander leaves.

11.Now idly sambar is ready to taste.Serve Idly with sambar.
