Ingredients
Cabbage – 1 (Medium size)
Moong dal – 1/4 cup
Chana dal – less than 1/4 cup
Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Hing – a pinch
Milk – 2 teaspoon
Curry leaves
Salt - to taste
To Temper
Oil – 1 teaspoon
Mustard and Urad dal – 1 teaspoon
Water – as needed
To Grind
Shredded coconut – 1/4 cup
Green chili – 2 to 3
Cumin seed – 1 teaspoon
Method
Chop the cabbage.Put cabbage,moong dal , chana dal together and add turmeric powder and hing .Cook it in a pressure cooker with enough water (you can also add milk instead water for more tasty)for 3 to 4 whistles.
Grind the ingredients given above in the column “ To grind”
Once pressure from the cooker completely released open the lid and add the coconut paste into the cooked cabbage and reduce flame to medium. Add 2 teaspoon of milk in it ( if you don’t add milk while pressure cooking or otherwise omit this step) . Add curry leaves and salt in it.
Temper the ingredients given above in the column “To Temper” and add it with the cabbage.let it boil for few minutes then transfer it into a serving bowl.
Cabbage Kootu is now ready to serve.
